“Aren’t the artists brave to go out and paint a sea as rough as that?......I don’t see how they keep their canvas dry.” -Ruth Draper
Judy Grossman’s work is the exploration of the artist playing with illusion; to make the viewer question what they see. For 30 years she has
explored the depths and layers of shadow, light, reflection, texture, and color as a professional sign artist and muralist, striving to learn and recreate old world craftsmanship and style. This pursuit has taught her the art of gold leaf, fine hand lettering, faux painting, and the intricacies of color theory and its application.
Her most authentic and complete work has come as she has realized the merging of old world craftsmanship with new world technology.
The union of old and new is the inspiration for all her work. Form and function now merge into beautifully crafted folding room screens, fireplace covers and paintings on wood and canvas, through the use of acrylics, bronzing powders
and metal leaf, with the goal of enlivening the senses and surprising the spirit.
Allow her to take you on a visual excursion through the rich colors and textures, luminous splendor and endless possibilities of functional art.
